You do not need to have expensive and heavy equipment in order to take good travel pictures. Find below some hint and tips, which will help you take great shots.

Sicily Travel Photography: The importance of light

The right light is of paramount importance, for great travel photography. Usually, the best moments of the day to take pictures are at the beginning of the day or towards the end, when the light is softer nnnand sometimes golden. Of course, we cannot always choose the moment of the day we will be taking pictures when we travel, but you still need to consider how light will affect your photographs.

One thing to remember is that in general it is better not to have the light source directly in front of the camera. Also, the picture will be more interesting if the light source hits the subject from the side, rather than straight from the front.

The composition of the picture for travel photography

When we travel we are sometimes in a hurry to take as many travel pictures as we can. It is worth stopping though for a few seconds and considering the composition of the photograph, in order to take good travel shots. One trick & tip for example, is to frame the subject, taking advantage for instance of a tree branch nearby or anything else that might provide a frame. Also, when shooting photographs, try to think of the image in terms of lines. Lines, whether diagonals, horizontals or verticals, can give a direction and order to the photo, thus creating a composition that is eye catching. This photo tip and trick will help you create better photos.

Another photo tip and trick is to make the composition of your travel photographs more interesting and help you take great shots, is changing your point of view. You could position yourself from a point above your subject, or below, on your knees for example, in order to highlight different aspects.

Also, remember the ‘rule of third’. Photographs where the subject is in the middle of the composition are not usually exciting. Instead, draw imaginary lines dividing the image into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. Then, place your subject at one third distance from the edges of the photo; for instance, third of the way up or third of the way from the left. This trick Valeria the photographerwill make the travel photo or photos more interesting, by focusing the stress not only on the subject, but also on the situation it is in, putting it into context by giving, for example, an idea of the direction it is moving towards or suggesting a story.
